Residents in Mechanicsburg and surrounding West Shore communities will soon have a new hub to receive high-quality health services. Construction on Sadler Health Center’s additional location at 5210 East Trindle Road has begun. The new center is scheduled to open later this year.
Like Sadler Health’s location in Carlisle, the new West Shore health center will offer primary care, dental care, behavioral health and support services – all provided by community-minded healthcare professionals who have a heart for Sadler’s mission.
The site of the new health center was formerly home to a manufacturing company, but over the next several months it will transform into a “medical mall” with access to comprehensive health services all on one floor and under one roof.
“We have reimagined and are renovating the entire space,” said Manal El Harrak, Chief Executive Officer of Sadler Health Center. “It will be a state-of-the-art healthcare facility designed to provide patients with a superior experience and many conveniences.”
Spanning 21,800 square feet, the West Shore center will have 23 exam rooms and eight dental suites. Patients will be able to fill prescriptions on the spot at an onsite pharmacy and lab services also will be available. Additionally, the location will include a vision care center to provide eye exams and a wide selection of eyewear to help patients find the perfect fit.
The center also will feature an Express Care Center with a separate entrance for patients who are sick or require non-urgent care for diagnosis and treatment.
“In addition to a separate entrance, our Express Care Center will have a separate waiting room and extended hours,” El Harrak said. The Express Care Center will play a vital role in reducing emergency department utilization for non-urgent services.
The decision to add a health center on the West Shore was informed by an in-depth study of healthcare access in the area. Unfortunately, the need for more access is prevalent. Based on Sadler’s needs assessment, over 88% of low-income individuals in Cumberland County are underserved or do not have access to healthcare.
“The primary driver of our expansion on the West Shore is to fill the need for affordable healthcare services for individuals who do not have access,” El Harrak said. “Our goal is to make sure that everyone in our community has access to a medical home where they can receive all the primary healthcare services they need regardless of their income or insurance status.
At Sadler, we serve everyone including patients who are uninsured, underinsured or have government-sponsored insurance like Medicaid or CHIP.”
The site was also selected to make it as convenient as possible for patients to visit. It is located along a Capital Area Transit bus route and most individuals identified as underserved in the area are within a 15-minute drive. Additionally, the center is in close proximity to New Hope Ministries’ Mechanicsburg Center, also on East Trindle Road, where patients can receive community services to meet other basic needs like food assistance.
Sadler Health’s “Ready…Set…Grow” capital campaign to help fund construction of the new center continues to attract gifts large and small from generous donors. Contributions at all levels, including gifts that are associated with naming opportunities for various spaces in the center, are deeply appreciated.
